15th June 1986 – newly formed Slubbing Billy’s had their first dance out with Kirkburton Rapier at The Woodman, Thunderbridge. They danced their only 2 dances – Alderley Edge and Ashfield – and that was the start of an amazing Morris adventure that has taken them all over the UK, and into Europe, dancing, playing, having the best sort of fun and making a many great friends.
Tonight, we recreate that first night with a dance out back at The Woodman with Kirkburton Rapier for a very special birthday celebration.
Hope to see you there 🙂
Here’s our list so far:
Tuesday 7th June – with Persephone at The Saville Arms, Hunsworth from 8pm.
Wednesday 15th June – with Kirkburton for our 30th Birthday at The Woodman Inn at Thunderbridge.
Monday June 27th – with Wakefield at The Blacksmiths Arms, Kirkheaton.
Wednesday 13th July – with White Rose Morris Men at The Sair, Linthwaite.
Plus more to be confirmed.
Hope to see you there 🙂
We are beginning to finalise our plans for the summer midweek dance outs and wondered where you’d like to see us dancing!
All ideas and suggestion welcomed…
And we’ve just about recovered to do it all again this weekend.
Closer to home this time – we are all off to dance at Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2016.
Do come and say hello if you get chance, there’s also plenty of other things to do and lots of great artists and dance sides to see.
Should be another great Billy’s weekend!..
We are very excited about 2016, it’s our 30th birthday plus we’ve got these events to look forward to…
We will be out and about around Slaithwaite tomorrow from 12pm before the Christmas lights switch on at 5pm.
Join us inside at Waves at 12-12.30pm and then spot us on our travels around the village – you may well find us outside a pub dancing or inside a pub quenching a thirst!
Come and say hello!
Watch this space for details of new officer roles and plans for 2016!
8pm usual place…
The Billy’s are off to York this weekend for our last summer (?!) dance weekend of 2015.
At the kind invitation of Ebor Morris, we are attending the 28th York Festival of Traditional Dance and we will be processing at 10.30 am on Saturday and then dancing in and around central York, culminating in a showcase dance from 3.30 pm.
It’d be lovely to see you there!
We are going to York (fingers crossed, touch wood, and all that…) and that could well be the last Billy’s camping weekend of the year.
We will be found dancing and generally having lots of giggles around York for the York Festival of Traditional Dance on the weekend of 12/13 September.
